FAQ’s

Changes due to Covid-19

We have had to change the way we do business due to Covid-19. A few of the changes we have made are listed here…

  • We are currently not able to take new orders for celebration cakes or large catering orders. We will review this regularly so please stay in touch.
  • Existing orders for celebration cakes will still be honoured. However, we understand that your circumstances have changed too, so we will work with you to reduce the size of the cake, postpone, or cancel orders depending on your needs.
  • We now offer delivery and collection options. In both cases we will be observing social distancing. Contactless delivery and collection is now standard.
  • We are currently not accepting any cash payments.
  • April Afternoon Tea Vouchers have been extended and are now valid until end of June.

How can I ensure my bespoke cake ends up the way I imagine it?

We encourage all our customers to come in for a free consultation so we can discuss all your requirements. The more information you can give us the more likely we will be able to produce the cake you have in mind. A mood board is particularly useful, especially if it includes pictures of other cakes, colours and styles that you like. We won’t copy another persons design, but we can certainly take inspiration from it.

Do you cater for special diets?

We use all kinds of yummy ingredients in our kitchen. Unfortunately, this means some cross contamination may occur, so we are not able to guarantee an allergen free environment.

We are able to exclude some ingredients from our baking which means we can offer a vegetarian Afternoon Tea Box. Exclusion may also suit very mild intolerance’s, so please get in touch before ordering for more information and to clarify what will work for you.

For larger catering orders we are able to be much more flexible with special diets, although we still cannot guarantee a nut free or gluten free baking environment.

How can I use my gift voucher?

Monetary gift vouchers may be redeemed against any of our products, including catering and bespoke cake orders. To redeem against a food order, the order must be placed, and the relevant deposit paid on or before the expiry date noted on the voucher. Gift Vouchers cannot be used to contribute to deposit payments, their full value will, instead, be deducted from the final balance.

If your voucher is for an Afternoon Tea Box for Two you can use the code written on the voucher when you checkout, but only when purchasing an Afternoon Tea Box for Two. Using the code this way means you are able to upgrade your gift to include delivery, add one of our extras, or add more boxes to your order.

If your voucher was purchased online you should be able to redeem it against any standard purchase via our website, simply follow the instructions that came with your voucher code.

For other purchases or voucher types, or if you are unsure, please get in touch and we will be only to happy to help.

Is the Afternoon Tea only available to take-away?

No, we are currently able to deliver Afternoon Tea Boxes locally to postcodes DD1-DD5 only.

We are able to deliver larger party orders much further afield. Please get in touch for more details.

Do you require a deposit for orders?

Yes, for food orders over £50 we ask for a deposit of 25% (minimum deposit £50) to secure the date. Unless otherwise agreed, the deposit must be paid within 12 hours of the order being agreed, otherwise the order will be cancelled and the date will be made available for other bookings. The balance will become due 4 weeks before delivery/collection.

For food orders that are due to be collected/delivered within 4 weeks of the order date, or for orders valued at less than £50, we require payment in full at the time of ordering.

For non-food orders including classes, payment is required, in full, at the time of booking.

How can I pay?

You can pay by one of the following methods:

Bank Transfer:
Acc Name: CSB Trading Limited
Sort Code: 20-29-24
Acc No: 90363065
Reference: Your First Initial and Surname.

PayPal
www.paypal.me/cakessake

Cash or Credit/Debit Card
Call in and pay in person at a pre-arranged time.

Do I need a PayPal account to purchase on your site?

No, is the short answer. However, sometime’s a device might get confused and insist that you sign in to PayPal – especially if it has been used by someone that has previously used PayPal. The way to rectify that is to clear your devices cache and then try again. This is very easy to do and takes only a few moments, but the method varies from device to device so I would suggest googling “How to clear cache on my…iPhone/Samsung S7/in chrome on my laptop” etc, and follow the instructions. If you get stuck, please get in touch and we’ll help you through it.

When do I need to pay my orders balance?

For food orders, the balance is due 4 weeks before the agreed collection/delivery date, at the latest. For orders that are valued at less than £50, classes, or orders that are due to be collected/delivered within 4 weeks of the order date, we require payment in full at the time of booking.

Failure to pay your balance on time may result in your booking being cancelled, and you may lose your deposit.

Do you cater for big parties?

Yes, subject to availability, we can cater for any size party. For large parties we advise that you give us as much notice as you can, as special arrangements may need to be made, such as hiring of additional staff.

Can you do afternoon tea for just 2 people?

Yes, that’s no problem at all. You can find more information about our Afternoon Tea boxes here.

Can I come and talk to you face-to-face about my cake/event?

Of course, we would love you to call in. Please get in touch to arrange a time that suits. Cake sampling can also be arranged, please contact us for more details and prices.

How much notice do you need?

The more notice you can give us the better. Bookings are taken on a first come, first served, basis. However, if we have availability, we can often do small parties and cakes at 4 days notice. Please contact us with your requirements and we will gladly discuss your options.

Do you make wedding cakes?

Yes, we can make all kinds of cake for any type of event, or non-event.

Do you do character/brand cakes?

Unfortunately, most characters and brands are protected by copyright law which prohibits us from reproducing them, or their likeness, in any way. We will also not copy another bakers cake or design, but we will take inspiration from their ideas.

How much will my cake cost?

All our cakes are bespoke, and are handmade just for you. This means that varying amounts of work will go into the creation and design of each one and as such, each one will be priced accordingly.

As a rough guide, a fairly simple 8″ and 6″ tiered cake will take around six hours to create, will serve around 30 guests, and will cost £98.

Some examples of our work can be found here.

Do you have a full set of terms and conditions I can read?

Yes, you can find them here.
